Unliving Hive

This piece is part of the Zine "Baby Bat's First ABC" organized by salems-lots on Tumblr. The Zine illustrates a term for every letter of the alphabet to help the newly turned vampire navigate unlife.

So many questions arise with a kindred's embrace: "Am I am monster now?" "How am I supposed to feed?" and most importantly: "What the fuck is everyone talking about?"

My prompt was "U" for "Unliving Hive", a power in the Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop game system. The power lets you bind and command a pet swarm of insects commonly used by the Nosferatu Clan whose curse it is to be repulsive.

The piece was done digitally in Procreate on an iPad imitating charcoal.
